For anyone who has never been to an Apple store...
I went to the Apple Store today.
The “home” button (aka the “only” button) on my iPhone hadn’t been working very well lately, so I wanted it looked at. I arrived for my appointment a little too late, thus my appointment had subsequently been skipped, but they managed to work me in 10 minutes later. The Apple dude in question verified that I had already backed up my...

I'm still alive.
I haven’t had much to say these last few weeks because I haven’t been able to skate, but things are looking up. I should be able to jump right in with the Chattanooga Rollergirls, assuming that I can work out a babysitter.
Speaking of, Cadence has both started walking and stopped breastfeeding within the last two weeks. It’s almost like I have a real kid instead of a baby....

Scrimmage tonight.
And I almost actually felt useful a few times.
.
That’s progress, right?
WFTDA Basics Test is a Month Away.
Approximately; they haven’t told us the exact date yet.
.
My endurance is not where I want it to be. I’m also not fast enough yet, but in another month I think I will be.
I’m not confident about the weaving or the pace line sections.
I can’t hop high enough.
I can’t cut sharply enough.
I’m too slow getting up from falls.
.
I guess I know what to work on.
I realize I haven't posted about roller derby for...

Mostly because my plow stops still suck and now I know I have to do 25 laps in 5 minutes instead of 20.
Also, I will say this: I love the pyramid of pain. I know no one else does but I feel so good after finishing one. I can’t breathe because of my mouthguard, but whatever. Feels good, man.
My ploughs are unpredictable. My T-stops and turnarounds are getting prettier. My...
Busy week.
Family in town this past weekend.
Cadence turned one year old on the 11th.
Bout night on Saturday the 12th. (Hustlin’ Rollers took the Tallahassee Rollergirls in a nailbiter! woOt!)
This morning we found out that Brian has successfully matched with a residency program.
Thursday we will find out with which program he matched - consequently determining where we will live for the next three...

This is my latte art tattoo. It represents everything in my life that i want to accomplish and learn. It’s located under my collarbone because I felt like putting it there.
Just saying.
First Scrimmage.
When they told me last week that I was being cleared to participate in scrimmages I was really excited.
Then I remembered that our next league scrimmage was less than a week away, and I promptly freaked out.
I continued to quietly freak out until last night when I got in formation for that first jam. I looked at the people on the track with me and those standing on the sidelines. I peered...

Win.
Walked/jogged (mostly walked) three miles with Cadence in the amazing sunshine today.
Discovered that Cadence’s new jogging stroller is heavy.
For good measure, I also completed 50 controlled yet girlie push-ups. I’d like to be able to do at least that many real push-ups someday; everyone’s got to start somewhere.
I’ve been thinking a lot about Klingons. Specifically,...
Tomorrow
I will go for a jog outdoors.
Making shit happen!

But I guess I should get to bed sometime soonish… MORNING SHOW TOMORROW AT 11AM!!! Ugh…I mean, YAY!!!! Cereal, bubbles, smiley magnets, t-shirt stencils and spray paint, balloon animals(?), and playing punk music all before noon! Yeah. We’re hardcore.
“…We had those all-ages hardcore matinee shows…”
Test Dream wo0t!

But what about tomorrow...

I’ve been skating with MRD for three weeks now, and I’m simply in love with my experience thus far. Memphis Roller Derby, like most derby leagues, is a non-profit self-maintained organization, which means that every coach, ref, scorekeeper, and, of course, skater must pull her (or his!) own weight. From the first day you sign that waiver and lace up your skates, you’re part of...

Change over time.
There has been a lot of change in my life over the last eighteen months. There are the obvious things - got pregnant, had a baby, quit my job, et cetera. Mixed up with all that was a tedious first trimester, a borderline preeclamptic third trimester, and an emotionally traumatic labor that concluded with a physically traumatic cesarean section. I lost weight, gained weight, lost again, gained...
